In Who Wore It Better? Angela reflects on the use of “visio-types”* in popular culture and public image creation and representation.
Layering the images of three subjects with similar features on top of each other, Angela creates new hybrid characters.
Are we prone to do the same in our minds when over flooded with similar visio-types no matter their original content and context? And how does this influence our perception of and opinion on each subject by itself?
*“Visio-types” – from the German expression “Visiotyp” is seen as a parallel notion to stereotypes. Visio-types include all forms of standardization of visualization – from common pictures to graphic presentations and pictorial features, from visually opinionated shortcuts to collective symbols. Visio-types have metaphoric like power, they are abridged instruments of visual exemplification – with a strong tendency towards simplification.
